Project delayed: Municipal Corporation seeks status report

Three projects of the Ludhiana Smart City Mission belonging to the Public Works Department (PWD) are delayed until 2021. Concerned about three projects that went beyond schedule, the Municipal Commissioner (MC) is asking authorities to provide an explanation. These developments are expected to cost Rs. 0.32 million.

PWD was tasked with carrying out the three projects, which included the construction of a classroom each in two schools and a multipurpose sports hall in a third school. The projects were supposed to be completed by 2022, but this year they missed another deadline on March 31.

It is reported that the PWD officials are not sharing reports related to them in review meetings. Government Primary School in Ward V and Government Senior Secondary School in Subhash Nagar were to each receive a new classroom. The Government School, Dairy Complex, and Tajpur Road were to be the locations of the sports hall.

The superintending engineer of MC, Sanjay Kanwar, confirmed that PWD had been awarded the projects in 2021. However, he mentioned that even they lacked information about the status report. He stated that they were in the process of writing letters to PWD, with the aim of ensuring that the pending projects could be completed promptly and reported to the central government.

Sandeep Rishi, the MC Commissioner, has taken serious notice of the laxity displayed in PWD work as the Smart City Mission draws to a close. He has written a letter to PWD authorities expressing his dissatisfaction and requesting that they provide a status update at the next planned meeting.
