Under the Jammu Smart City Project, Jammu will soon have an integrated command and control centre (ICCC), an intelligent traffic management system and web geographic information system (GIS)-based e-bill pay for civic services.
Jammu Smart City Limited (JSCL) signed a contract agreement with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) for building the ICCC for Jammu worth Rs 53 crore.
The ICCC would incorporate every civic and essential service on a single platform to facilitate monitoring and managing public issues in real-time.
Dr Raghav Langer, Divisional Commissioner, also the chairman of the Board of Directors, JSCL, held a meeting of officers to inspect the progress and execution of projects awarded to BEL and Jammu and Kashmir e-Governance Agency (JaKeGA) by Jammu Smart City Limited.
This project would help in setting up a collaborative framework where input from several functional departments of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) and additional stakeholders like the Jammu Development Authority (JDA), e-governance, water, fire, etc would be incorporated and examined on a single platform, resulting in aggregated city-level information.
Moreover, this city-level information can be turned into actionable intelligence and propagated to appropriate stakeholders and citizens.
The command centre will be built in one specific place from where traffic, CCTV, water, and additional services would be merged into a single command room.
During the meeting, BEL representatives presented a detailed PowerPoint presentation and revealed that the project has several components such as the ICCC, enterprise GIS solution- disaster management system, intelligent traffic management system, Central grievance redressal mechanism, property survey, my Jammu mobile application, and much more.
About the intelligent traffic management system, BEL has selected 44 junctions out of a total of 64 in Jammu city to implement Phase-1 of the project. The ground survey of 44 traffic junctions is already finished.
The proposed system would also help in detecting violations such as automatic number plate recognition, black-listed vehicle, red light violation, automatic e-Challan generation, speed limit violation, triple riding detection, no helmet or seat belt detection, mobile usage while driving.
