Defence Ministry Signs Contract with BEL

The Ministry of Defence has signed a capital acquisition contract with Bharat Electronics (BEL), Ghaziabad, for the procurement of Low-Level Transportable Radar (LLTR) Ashwini. The contract, valued at Rs 29.06 billion, aims to enhance the country's indigenous defence capabilities.

Designed and developed by the Electronics and Radar Development Establishment, a division of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the LLTR (Ashwini) features advanced solid-state technology. This active electronically scanned phased array radar is capable of detecting and tracking a wide range of aerial targets, including high-speed fighter aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and helicopters.

The procurement of this radar system is expected to significantly improve the Indian Air Force's operational readiness. Additionally, it marks a crucial step towards reducing reliance on foreign defence equipment while fostering the growth of the domestic defence manufacturing ecosystem.
