UP CM inaugurates first prototype train for Kanpur and Agra Metro

On Saturday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the first prototype train for the Kanpur and Agra Metro projects.

He told the media that quick efforts are underway to render the services in other cities in Uttar Pradesh. He congratulated Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) and Alstom Transport India Limited for the project.

Adityanath said that the four cities in the state are presently utilising Metro trains. Metro is a must today. Currently, Ghaziabad, Lucknow, Noida and Greater Noida are using the Metro. They are working expeditiously on the Kanpur and Agra Metros.

The CM expressed hopes that by November 30, the state will be able to provide it to the country and have Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurate it. Efforts are being made to bring Metro trains to Prayagraj, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Jhansi and Meerut too. Detailed Project Reports (DPR) for these have been either given or are in their final stages.

The nation used to be reliant on western firms for transportation projects, but it is now developing in meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a self-reliant India, he said.

Uttar Pradesh CM lauded the efforts of the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) during the Covid-19 pandemic. He said that they worked tirelessly, and even Covid-19 could not be a barrier for them.

The Agra Metro project construction was inaugurated by PM Modi in December 2020. The Agra Metro will link significant tourist places like the Agra Fort, Sikandra and Taj Mahal with the city's other transport nodes such as railway stations and bus stands. The civil construction works of Kanpur Metro's priority corridor from IIT to Motijheel was granted in 2020 and is being implemented at a rapid speed since the re-opening of the state after the Covid-19 lockdown.
