The land acquisition process for Corridor-4 of the Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project (BSRP) -- Kanaka Line: Heelalige to Rajanukunte -- has commenced, giving a much-needed push to the long-pending project. The construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. 

The Karnataka Rail Infrastructure Development Company (K-RIDE) is acquiring 48.122 acres of private land across Yelahanka, Bengaluru East, and Anekal taluks for the Kanaka Line. Meanwhile, the Railways has already handed over 115 acres, ensuring that civil works, which had been progressing at a sluggish pace, will now gain momentum. Sources said that land acquisition for the Kanaka Line includes 25,172 sq.m. in Yelahanka and Hesaraghatta hoblis of Yelahanka Taluk, 15,918 sq m in Varthur, KR Puram, Marathahalli, and Mahadevapura hoblis of Bengaluru East Taluk, and 7,039 sq m in Attibele and Sarjapur of Anekal Taluk. An official said, “Preliminary works have begun, with 15 minor bridges already completed. Embedded Rail System (ERS) construction is in progress, and geotechnical work is underway. Additionally, BSRP officials are awaiting BBMP’s approval to cut trees in designated protected forest areas. The BSRP spans a total of 149.34 km, with Corridor-4 covering 46.88 km. The project will feature 8.96 km of viaducts (arch bridges) and 37.92 km of grade separators. A total of 19 stations will be built along this corridor, including two elevated stations.” 

The line will connect key locations, including: Rajanukunte, Muddanahalli, Yelahanka (Elevated Interchange), Jakkur, Hegde Nagar, Thanisandra, Hennur, Horamavu, Channasandra, Benniganahalli (Interchange), Kaggadasapura, Marathahalli (Elevated), Bellandur Road, carmelaram, Ambedkar Nagar, Huskur, Singena Agrahara, Bommasandra, and Heelalige. 

Meanwhile, the tender process for the Soladevanahalli depot is in its final stage, with KPIC Projects Ltd securing the contract. This depot will serve the Mallige Corridor (24.86 km), connecting Baiyappanahalli and Chikkabanavara. Another depot near Devanahalli will be constructed for maintenance of 51 trains (306 coaches) across both corridor.
