Tender Issued for Gurugram Metro Phase 1

The Gurugram Metro Rail (GMRL) has initiated the tendering process for the construction of the first phase of the Gurugram Metro, extending from Millennium City Centre to Sector 9. The project is estimated to cost Rs 12.86 billion, with bid openings scheduled for April 22.

GMRL, responsible for implementing mass rapid transport projects in Haryana, will oversee the construction of a 15.22 km metro rail viaduct, 15 metro stations, a 1.85 km spur to Dwarka Expressway, and a ramp leading to the proposed depot in Sector 33. A metro station will also be constructed adjacent to the existing Millennium City Metro Station to facilitate connectivity.

The stations planned for phase one include Millennium City Centre, Sector 45, Cyber Park (Sector 46), Sector 47, Subhash Chowk, Sector 48, Sector 33, Hero Honda Chowk, Udyog Vihar Phase Six, Sector 10, Sector 37, Basai, Sector 9, and Sector 101. The Millennium City Centre station will feature an interchange connecting it to the existing Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) network.

As per the tender document issued on March 8, the selected contractor will be responsible for conducting a detailed survey of the viaduct alignment. Additionally, the scope of work includes the construction of station structures, track-supporting infrastructure, commercial spaces, and other civil works. The contractor will also establish a control room with continuous communication links to safety offices and work sites. Coordination with the district administration and traffic police will be required to implement traffic diversions, ensuring minimal disruption for commuters.

To compensate for the environmental impact of tree felling, the GMRL board has approved the plantation of 16,600 trees, requiring 17 hectares of land. This initiative will be carried out in collaboration with the forest department and the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA).
