South Central Railway redeveloping 53 Andhra Pradesh stations

The South Central Railway (SCR) is undertaking the redevelopment of 53 railway stations across Andhra Pradesh with an investment of $1.4 billion under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS).

According to SCR Chief Public Relations Officer A. Sridhar, the Indian Railways has initiated large-scale upgrades of key stations, including Tirupati, Rajamahendravaram, and Nellore, aiming to offer world-class amenities. The foundation stone for these projects was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi a few months ago. Sridhar emphasised that the initiative is intended to transform the stations into regional growth hubs.

Divisional Railway Manager (Vijayawada), Narendra A. Patil, provided a breakdown of the redevelopment costs: - Tirupati: $30 million - Rajamahendravaram: $21.4 million - Nellore: $10.2 million - Kurnool City: $4.3 million - Anakapalle: $2.7 million - Tadepalligudem and Nidadavolu Junctions: $2.7 million each - Narsapur and Repalle: $2.5 million each - Bhimavaram Town, Eluru, and Kakinada Town: $2.1 million each - Kadapa: $2 million - Machilipatnam and Gudivada: $1.7 million each - Samalkot: $1.5 million - Vinukonda: $1.2 million - Gooty: $1.08 million

The revamped stations will feature landscaping, stalls under the ‘One Station, One Product’ initiative, expanded entry and circulation areas, LED boards, improved waiting halls, and better signage. Special attention will be given to promoting local art and culture. Additionally, work is underway to build footpaths, enhance parking spaces, electrify areas, and widen approach roads for improved accessibility.
