Rayanapadu Station in Vijayawada Division Gets a Major Upgrade
Situated 9 km from Vijayawada Junction on the Grand Trunk Route (Chennai–Balharshah–Nagpur–New Delhi), Rayanapadu plays a crucial role as a bypass station for Vijayawada. It facilitates 20 train stoppages and serves as a key transit hub for routes connecting Nagpur and Secunderabad (via Warangal) to Visakhapatnam, Bhubaneswar, and Kolkata. The station is also known for its peaceful surroundings and proximity to historical and religious landmarks.
The redevelopment project focuses on enhancing passenger facilities and infrastructure. Currently, 58 per cent of the work is complete, covering platform surfacing, new shelters, a waiting hall, modular toilets, façade improvements, circulating area enhancements, and the installation of lifts. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
As part of a larger initiative to modernize railway stations across Andhra Pradesh, ABSS is overseeing the transformation of 53 stations at a total cost of Rs 26.11 billion. The initiative aims to provide world-class amenities and establish stations as regional growth centres. Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stones for these projects in August 2023 and February 2024, accelerating their implementation.
Major stations such as Tirupati and Nellore are also progressing rapidly under this scheme. The ongoing development of Rayanapadu highlights Indian Railways’ commitment to enhancing connectivity, passenger convenience, and regional economic growth along the south coast corridor.
