Railway Minister reveals design of Vande Bharat sleeper model

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw unveiled the body structure of Vande Bharat's sleeper coaches at a Bharat Earth Movers (BEML) facility there. BEML, which falls under the Ministry of Defence and manufactures products for various sectors including defence, aerospace, mining, construction, rail, and metro, has received orders to produce 10 trainsets of Vande Bharat Sleeper, each consisting of 160 coaches.

Vaishnaw mentioned that the Vande Bharat train comes in three versions ? chair car, sleeper, and metro. While the chair car version has already been launched and gained popularity, the first carbody of the Vande sleeper is now ready.

He informed the media, "Now, the furnishing work will take place. Manufacturing the carbody is the most challenging task. Today, we will discuss how to scale it up further." He added, "We will test the first trainset for five to six months, and only after that, it will be launched. Since the sleeper train is based on the same technology as the chair car, it will offer similar benefits such as jerk-free, noiseless, quick acceleration, and deceleration."

The Railway Minister emphasised that special attention is being given to passengers' comfort in the sleeper train. "The foot area of the ladder for entering the train has been improved to facilitate easy entry for passengers. Toilets have new designs, and air-conditioning has better control. The seat cushion incorporates new technology, ensuring better comfort. Oxygen levels will be maintained, and 99.99 percent of viruses will be eliminated," he stated.
