PMRDA may delay launch of Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro route
The focus shifted to this third metro route after the completion of two others: Vanaz to Ramwadi and Pimpri Chinchwad to Swargate, both developed by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (Maha-Metro). The third route, spanning 24 kilometre and featuring 23 stations, will provide direct connectivity from the city to the Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park in Hinjewadi.
As of now, around 85 per cent of the work has been completed, and the remaining infrastructure needed to begin testing will be ready by December. The commencement of services will depend on successful testing and the approval of safety systems. While the speed of work has been accelerated, civil work at the Pune University junction requires additional time. The on-going construction of a double-decker flyover on Ganeshkhind Road will allow the metro to run on the top deck, with road traffic below.
The Metro service from Shivajinagar to Hinjewadi is a highly anticipated development, as it will cater to thousands of daily commuters traveling to the IT park. The introduction of the Metro is expected to alleviate congestion and reduce reliance on private vehicles.
