Oscillation trials for Navi Mumbai metro begins

The Indian Railways' Research Design and Standard Organisation (RDSO) started oscillation trials for a section of the metro rail system in Navi Mumbai on Saturday to ensure the system's safety and quality ahead of its planned launch later this year.

The City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) is constructing the four elevated corridors for the Navi Mumbai Metro project, intending to launch public service soon after the oscillation trials are completed.

These oscillation tests are considered a crucial step in the metro service commissioning process. Before declaring the network open to passenger service, the Indian Railways' research wing will test the braking system, the tracks, and the safety of the metro cars at various times.

RDSO will conduct oscillation trials for Metro Line 1 from Pendhar Station to Central Park Station starting August 28th, according to a tweet from CIDCO on Tuesday. CIDCO will build elevated corridors for the Navi Mumbai Metro that will connect several nodes and improve public transportation efficiency.

The Navi Mumbai Metro is a rapid transit system in the Indian city of Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra, that is currently under construction. The City and Industrial Development Corporation is in charge of the Navi Mumbai Metro's planning and construction (CIDCO). The system will be made up of three rail lines that will span a total distance of 106.4 km. The project's foundation stone was laid on May 1, 2011, and the metro's first line was scheduled to open in 2020, despite construction delays.

Owing to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, which has resulted in lockdowns, curfews, and a labour shortage, the completion date for the first line (Line 1) of the Navi Mumbai Metro has been pushed back to 2022.
