The demolition of properties for the Old City Metro Rail extension between MGBS and Chandrayangutta has begun, with officials confirming that the process will pause during Ramzan to avoid inconvenience to residents.
The 7.5-km Metro extension will affect 1,100 properties, with demolition expected to be completed in the coming months. So far, 50 out of 200 properties for which compensation was issued have been cleared.
“Work is going on well, without obstructing traffic flow. We are working with utmost caution as there are various cables passing through this road,” said Srinivasa Reddy, deputy executive engineer.
The Rs 27.4 billion ($330 million) project was revived by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy after being shelved by the previous BRS government.
