Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1: Oscillation trials to begin this week
The City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO), a nodal agency for the construction of the metro in Navi Mumbai, is preparing to open a part of the stretch for operations by December 2021.
Oscillation trials for the project will start from Saturday, almost a decade after work on the Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1 from Belapur to Pendhar began.
RDSO will conduct the oscillation trials to check the dynamic behavior of the rolling stock or metro cars in various conditions to ensure the safety and quality of the rides.
At different times, the metro cars will also be examined for their braking system, the worthiness of tracks, and the cars. Trials will be carried out for the section between Pendhar station to Central Park station, covering a 5.14 km distance.
An oscillation trial is an essential stage before the commissioning of citizens' metro service. After the oscillation trial, the passenger service will start soon on metro line 1 in two phases, said Sanjay Mukherjee, Vice-Chairman, and Managing Director, CIDCO.
Under Navi Mumbai Metro, CIDCO is constructing four elevated corridors to make Navi Mumbai's public transport system more efficient and interconnect various nodes.
CIDCO said that a trial run of Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1 covering 11.1 km with 11 stations and a depot at Taloja was conducted successfully in May this financial year.
