BEML supplied the state-of-the-art driverless trains to the Mumbai Metro Line 2 and Line 7. The six-car train set has a capacity of about 2,306 passengers with seating for 298 passengers. Facial recognition, AI monitoring system deployed on India’s largest rail network
India’s rail networks are adding artificial intelligence (AI) and facial recognition systems to their stations, part of a growing biometrics and surveillance market which experts predict will be worth over US$15 billion within the next five years. IDIS Global, the South Korean video surveillance manufacturer, is providing Indian Railways, Asia’s largest rail network, with a 4K camera system equipped with integrated AI video analytics and facial recognition technology from Herta Security. The first phase of a major technology update for the rail system saw cameras placed across hundreds of platforms in 230 high-traffic stations across the country’s eastern region in May 2024. Indian Railways 14,000 trains carry an estimated 9.5 million passengers daily.

DMRC and CRIS join hands to promote 'One India - One Ticket' move
In a landmark initiative and the first of its kind initiative, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and Centre For Railway Information Systems (CRIS) have collaborated to promote the ‘One India - One Ticket’ initiative, to revolutionise seamless travel experience of the main line railway and metro passengers in Delhi NCR area. The DMRC QR code-based tickets can now be booked on the IRCTC website and mobile application with a full version launch is anticipated. Metro tickets can be booked up to 120 days in advance and are valid for four days. The step will save the time of rail passengers at DMRC stations by avoiding long queues.

First-ever floating solar plant of Indian Railways
The Central Railway (CR) has installed a floating solar plant of 10 Megawatt Peak (MWp) capacity in Igatpuri lake in the Western Ghats, a first-of-its-kind initiative by the Indian Railways. The plant will leverage renewable energy sources using solar power, installing wind-energy resources and contributing towards the railways’ goal of a “green Earth”. Moving towards its ultimate goal of zero carbon emission by 2030, CR has commissioned 12.05 MWp solar plants by using the rooftop of railway stations and buildings out of which 4 MWp solar plants were provided last year, which resulted in a saving of `46.2 million in 2023-24 and a saving of carbon footprints of 6,594.81 MT. After commissioning of the RE sources, it is expected that 70 per cent of traction energy will be green.

Now, steel railings at 5 DMRC stations after wall collapse
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) removed concrete structures and installed stainless steel railings in five elevated stations on the Pink Line after a man was killed following the collapse of a portion of a wall at Gokulpuri metro station. The lifespan of metro civil structures is 100 years. All the elevated stations on the line were inspected and five stations Gokulpuri, Jafrabad, Welcome, East Azad Nagar and Krishna Nagar were identified for further action. The concrete parapets at all elevated stations of the Pink Line were inspected.
