Mumbai to get additional 50 km of metro network this year: Fadnavis

According to Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) will get up to 50 km of new metro in 2023-2024. During the state assembly 2023-24 budget, Deputy CM made this announcement. He stated that several projects, including Mumbai Metro Line 10 (Gaimukh to Shivaji Chowk, Mira Road, with a total length of 9.2 km and an estimated cost of Rs 44.76 billion), Mumbai Metro Line 11 from Wadala to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSTM), with a total length of 12.77 km and an estimated cost of Rs 87.39 billion, and Metro line 12 from Kalyan to Taloja, with a length of 12.77 km and an estimated cost of Rs 58.65 billion will be completed.

He also stated that 820 public utility improvement works worth Rs 17.29 billion had been carried out for the Mumbai beautifying project. The Thane and Vasai creeks will be connected as part of Rs 4.24 billion project to improve water transportation throughout Mumbai. According to Fadnavis, a proposal to build a jetty and associated facilities for a water transport terminal at Radio Club near the Gateway of India in Mumbai has been given the green light at a cost of Rs 1.62 billion. From South Mumbai, it will make it easier to go by water to Kalyan, Dombivli, Thane, Vasai, and Navi Mumbai.

He stated that the first phase of the memorial for Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray will be finished by May 2023 and the construction of a memorial for Dr. B.R. Ambedkar at Dadar in downtown Mumbai will be finished by April 2025. At a cost of Rs 5.27 billion, a new passenger terminal would be built at the Shirdi airport in the Ahmednagar district, according to Fadnavis. According to him, planning is now underway to expand the Nagpur international airport and build a new international airport at Purandar in the Pune district. A fund of Rs 7.34 billion will be granted for land acquisition at Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar Airport.
