Mumbai Metro Breakthrough on Line 7A Tunnel to Airport

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority achieved a major breakthrough on Metro Line Seven A with the completion of a tunnel connecting Andheri East and the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis officiated the event at Airport Colony Station.

The 3.4 kilometre extension of the Red Line Seven includes 2.5 kilometres underground and 0.94 kilometre elevated. It features two stations — Airport Colony (elevated) and Terminal Two (underground). Tunnel boring machine Disha completed a 1.647 kilometre downline tunnel from Terminal Two. The project used advanced engineering to overcome complex obstacles like utility lines, existing metro tunnels, and shallow soil cover.

Once operational, Line Seven A will offer smoother transfers to Lines One and Three and direct connectivity to Navi Mumbai International Airport via the future Line Eight. As of now, construction progress is at fifty-nine per cent, with launch targeted for December twenty twenty-six.
