Malkajgiri Station Revamp Under Amrit Bharat Scheme

Malkajgiri railway station, situated just 3 km from Secunderabad railway station, is undergoing a Rs 276.1 million transformation under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS). According to an official release, 60% of the redevelopment work has been completed, with the aim of enhancing passenger-friendly facilities.

The station, located in the Hyderabad division between the Secunderabad and Manmad section, serves several residential colonies and witnesses an average footfall of 2,500 passengers per day. It also generates annual earnings of Rs 54.8 million, with 27 pairs of trains halting at the station.

The redevelopment plan focuses on providing modern amenities, including a spacious concourse, waiting halls, food stalls, and restrooms. Key construction works currently underway include the provision of an entrance portico, a 12-metre Foot-Over-Bridge (FOB), and installation of three lifts and three escalators for passenger convenience.

Additionally, improvements to platform surfaces, enhanced cover over platforms, upgraded toilets, and construction of new toilet blocks, including facilities for the disabled, are part of the plan. Upkeep of waiting halls, landscaping, and circulation area improvements are also in progress.

The station will showcase cultural motifs reflecting local art and culture along with passenger-friendly signage, train indication boards, and coach indication boards.

The official release added, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation stone for stations’ redevelopment in Telangana in August 2023 and February 2024.”

The redevelopment of Malkajgiri railway station is part of a broader initiative under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, which includes 40 stations in Telangana aimed at providing improved travel experiences and facilities for passengers.
