Kolkata’s much-anticipated Noapara-Airport Metro is in its final stages, with operations likely to commence by June or July 2025, following safety inspections. The 7-km stretch, part of the Yellow Line Phase 1, will connect Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport to the metro network, ensuring a seamless transit experience for passengers.

Final Inspections & Expected Launch The Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) is scheduled to inspect the 4-km Dum Dum Cantonment–Bimanbandar section in April 2025. Upon receiving the CRS’s approval, services are expected to begin within the following months.

Jai Hind Metro Station: A Game-Changer for Air Travellers The new Airport Metro station, formally named Jai Hind Metro Station, will serve as a crucial hub for commuters from Kolkata’s northern suburbs. It will be one of Asia’s largest underground metro facilities, located 13 metres beneath the airport terminal.

Key features of the station include:

Sprawling 29,000 sqm area with five platforms. Initial operations on Platforms 1 & 2, while Platforms 3, 4, and 5 will serve the upcoming Orange Line (New Garia–Airport corridor). Designed capacity of 80,000 passengers per day.

Five entry points, including two subways:

One linking Airport Gate No.1, equipped with walkalators for luggage-laden passengers. Another connecting Jessore Road, benefiting commuters from Birati, Barasat, and Madhyamgram.

Enhanced Connectivity & Reduced Travel Time The Airport Metro station’s extensive stabling yard (17,497 sqm, with seven tracks) will allow seamless integration with Kolkata’s metro network. Travel time to Esplanade will be slashed to 30 minutes. Direct connectivity to Howrah and other metro corridors.
