Kolkata Metro to Suspend Green Line Services on March 8-9

The Kolkata Metro Railway has announced a complete traffic block on the East West Metro Corridor (Green Line) on March 8 and 9 for testing the Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) system. Services will also be partially disrupted on the evening of March 7 and the morning of March 10.
The Green Line, India’s first underwater metro tunnel and home to the country’s deepest metro shaft, runs from Howrah Maidan to Salt Lake Sector V. This line’s first phase was inaugurated in 2020 by then Railway Minister Piyush Goyal.
Additionally, the Kolkata Metro recently introduced a paper QR-based multiple ticketing facility on the Purple Line — a feature already available on the Blue, Green, and Orange lines.
Revised schedules for the Green Line are as follows:
March 7 (Friday)
- Last service from Sealdah to Salt Lake Sector V at 7:03 pm (instead of 9:35 pm)
- Last service from Salt Lake Sector V to Sealdah at 7:05 pm (instead of 9:40 pm)
- Last service from Esplanade and Howrah Maidan at 7:00 pm (instead of 7:45 pm)
March 10 (Monday)
- First service from Salt Lake Sector V to Sealdah at 8:05 am (instead of 7:05 am)
- First service from Sealdah to Salt Lake Sector V at 8:15 am (instead of 6:55 am)
- First service from Esplanade and Howrah Maidan at 8:00 am (instead of 7:00 am)
Services on the Blue Line will remain unaffected.
