KMRL to unveil Thiruvananthapuram metro rail model
A stakeholders' meeting led by General Education Minister V Sivankutty was conducted in the capital to discuss the draft Comprehensive Mobility Report (CMP) prepared by UMTC (Urban Mass Transit Company). During the meeting, it was also noted that the city's traffic system needs a major overhaul with the introduction of a new metro system.
It was stated that the AAR would be submitted within a month, and it would suggest the most suitable type of MRTS for Thiruvananthapuram, including the proposed metro rail project. The CMP had already identified the MRTS corridor, which would be further discussed in the upcoming follow-up meetings.
According to the CMP report, the city requires a comprehensive revamp of the traffic system and parking facilities. The report also identified high-demand mobility corridors for the proposed MRTS in the district. The first corridor spans 27.4km, running from Technocity (Pallipuram) to Pallichal via Karamana and Nemom. The second corridor, covering a distance of 14.7km, stretches from Kazhakootam to Killippalam via Enchakkal.
