Indore's long-awaited metro rail system is set to begin commercial operations by early 2025. Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (MPMRC) officials confirmed that the metro will initially operate on a 5.9 km stretch from Gandhi Nagar station to the third station on the Super Corridor, where trial runs were conducted in September 2023.
This section has been named the "super priority corridor." MPMRC officials are hopeful to launch commercial services by early 2025, with various tests on the route currently underway. Once tests are completed, the MPMRC will submit a report to the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) for approval.
The official added that metro stations in the city are designed to accommodate six-coach trains, but initially, three-coach trains will be in service. The capacity of each coach is approximately 300 passengers, with 50 seats available.
The Indore metro project, estimated at Rs 7,500.80 crore, began in September 2019. It is planned to span 31.5 km, with future extensions further integrating the city.
