Indian Railways to produce 10,000 Non-AC coaches by 2025-26

Indian Railways has announced plans to produce 10,000 non-air-conditioned coaches by the end of the fiscal year 2025-26. This initiative aims to address the travel needs of common passengers, with 53% of the new coaches designated as general coaches.

Indian Railways will manufacture 4,485 coaches this fiscal year. These include 2,605 general coaches, 1,470 non-AC sleeper coaches, 323 seating-cum-luggage rake (SLR) coaches, 32 high-capacity parcel vans, and 55 pantry cars.

The majority of the new coaches, including Amrit Bharat general coaches, will cater to the general passenger segment, ensuring affordable travel options. The annual production program considers dynamic rail service demands influenced by seasonal changes and increasing passenger traffic.

By the end of the fiscal year 2025-26, Indian Railways plans to have 10,000 non-AC coaches in service, reflecting a commitment to meeting the needs of a growing and diverse passenger base.

This expansion is part of Indian Railways' broader strategy to enhance its services and accommodate the rising demand for rail travel. The production aligns with requirements to ensure efficient and responsive service delivery.
