In-principle approval given for Indore-Ujjain Metro rail project

The Madhya Pradesh government has reportedly granted in-principle approval for the Metro train project linking the state's two major cities, Indore and Ujjain, as announced by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav. It was further indicated that a separate railway track is to be laid for the Rapid Rail project between these cities.

In addition, CM Yadav is said to have mentioned that all railway routes in Ujjain are being strengthened. The first phase of metro projects in both Indore and Bhopal is currently under construction, with approvals already secured for subsequent phases.

It has also been reported that the Madhya Pradesh government, led by CM Yadav, recently unveiled plans to establish a new metropolitan city by merging areas from Indore, Ujjain, Dewas, and Dhar districts. This ambitious initiative aims to transform the Malwa-Nimar region into a key economic hub, attracting investment and fostering growth. The proposed metropolitan area is expected to harness the unique strengths of each district: Indore, as a commercial centre, would serve as the anchor; Ujjain, with its historical trade route, would offer strategic connectivity; Dewas, known for its industrial potential, would contribute economic diversity; and Dhar, with its agricultural base, would complement the overall development.

During a press conference following a review of the preparations for Simhastha-2028 in Ujjain, CM Yadav reportedly mentioned that the tender process for the Ujjain-Indore six-lane highway has been completed, and the foundation stone for the Ujjain-Jaora Green Highway would be laid shortly.

CM Yadav is also said to have announced plans to enhance the facilities of ashrams and dharamshalas for saints and seers in Ujjain, modelled on similar developments in Haridwar. It was noted that a plan has been devised in collaboration with public representatives to establish Ujjain as a prominent religious destination, with a focus on creating dharamshalas, medical centres, and Ayurveda centres through contributions from interested devotees.
