Hyderabad Metro Plans 40-Minute Airport Link via Shamshabad

Hyderabad Metro Rail is set to introduce a seamless 40-minute airport connection via Shamshabad, with a 40-km metro corridor in the pipeline. Hyderabad Metro Rail Managing Director NVS Reddy, during a survey inspection on Sunday, confirmed that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed Future City metro rail project is underway.

“It will start from the airport terminal, pass alongside the proposed metro rail depot in the airport area, follow the boundary wall of the airport for about 5 km along Mansanpally Road, and reach Pedda Golconda ORR Exit,” stated a press release from Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR).

Green Corridor for Future City

The Telangana government plans to develop Future City, a 15,000-acre urban extension along Srisailam Highway, as a pollution-free green city. The new metro corridor will significantly improve connectivity to this emerging hub.

“Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s intention is to develop green corridors for the Future City,” said NVS Reddy.

The metro route will remain elevated for 14 km along the Outer Ring Road (ORR) to Tukkuguda and Raviryala exits. It will then transition into an “At Grade” metro rail corridor along Green Field Road, covering Kongara Kalan, Lemur, Timmapur, and Meerkhanpet.

State-of-the-Art Metro Stations Planned Hyderabad Metro MD also announced the development of two “highly attractive metro stations” at Bahadurguda and Pedda Golconda to support a planned 1,500-acre government land hub near Pedda Golconda exit.

Meanwhile, surveys and soil testing for metro corridors from Jubilee Bus Station (JBS) to Medchal (24 km) and JBS to Shamirpet (21 km) are progressing. The DPRs for these routes are expected to be completed by March. Once approved by the state government, they will be submitted to the Centre.
