The proposed multi-modal transport hub at Hebbal, intended as a key facility for the Hebbal-Sarjapur Metro line (Orange Line), faces delays due to unresolved land acquisition issues. The Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) has yet to transfer 55 acres of land in Amanikere village to Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL). This land, earmarked for a state-of-the-art transport hub with multi-level parking and a depot, is under dispute due to compensation concerns with private landowners. A private firm had previously purchased 55.1 acres in the area for a tourism project but failed to execute the plan. KIADB later repossessed the land and issued a notice in June 2023, demanding Rs 12.1 million per acre from the company, but the payment remains pending, delaying the transfer to BMRCL. Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje had urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to expedite the land issue, highlighting the need for timely action to control project costs and improve citizens’ quality of life. . A BMRCL official confirmed delays due to technical issues in land acquisition, posing a significant challenge to the project aimed at decongesting traffic and improving travel efficiency. Meanwhile, Rajajinagar MLA S Suresh Kumar urged the Chief Minister to ensure timely decisions, avoid undue influence from real estate lobbies, and prioritise public interest in transferring 45 acres under KIADB control.
