Eco-Friendly Designs Made for Kanpur Metro's Baradevi-Naubasta Section
The five stations in this section—Baradevi, Kidwai Nagar, Vasant Vihar, Buddha Nagar, and Naubasta—are being designed to maximise solar energy use, following the model of the Priority Corridor. The PEB structures incorporate translucent or transparent sheets, allowing natural sunlight to illuminate the platforms during the day, reducing the reliance on artificial lighting and conserving electricity.
Work on other stations is underway, focusing on the PEB structures and technical rooms at the concourse level. Platform casting for all five stations was completed in September.
UPMRC Managing Director Sushil Kumar highlighted the project's rapid progress, noting the completion of major milestones such as the erection of precast structures. "The designs blend functionality with aesthetics, sustainability, and cost-efficiency. A trial run from Moti Jheel to Kanpur Central is planned soon, with passenger services expected to commence by January 2025," he stated.
Currently, Kanpur Metro operates passenger services on a 9-km stretch of the Priority Corridor connecting IIT and Moti Jheel.
