Delhi govt reviews progress of New Delhi rly station revamp project

Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal reviewed the progress and status of New Delhi Railway Station redevelopment under the national Transit Oriented Development (TOD) policy.

Government sources said when the first meeting of the Apex Committee related to the project had been held at the beginning of December 2020, the Lieutenant Governor's leadership in ensuring coordination between interdepartmental and inter-agency, and proactive cooperation of all stakeholders had resulted in seamless progress over multiple aspects of the project.

A government source said that the project status including the grant of no-objection certificate (NOCs) by various departments and preparation of influence zone Plans were reviewed.

The Lieutenant Governor showed satisfaction over the fact that of the nine NOCs needed, seven had been obtained, and the remaining two, one of which concerns tree transplantation, were supposed to be in place at the earliest, the source told the media.

According to government sources, the Lieutenant Governor acknowledged all the stakeholders and agencies for the work done so far in terms of finalisation of the request for quote (RFQ) of the project, traffic simulation, getting NOCs, and parking planning for all buildings with seamless entry or exit from approach roads.

The other aspects recognised by the Lieutenant Governor involved entire waste management for project areas with two sewage treatment plants (STP’s) and one effluent treatment plants (ETP), vertical greens project with façade control of the complete project.

According to Raj Niwas, the redevelopment of the New Delhi Railway Station and its surrounding regions will generate world-class, state-of-the-art amenities and facilities for passengers and new community spaces for the people.

It will also guarantee smooth and congestion-free connectivity to the station and the most advanced environmentally sustainable commercial areas.
