CIDCO Reduces Metro Fare on Key Route

In a move aimed at making public transportation more affordable and accessible, CIDCO (City and Industrial Development Corporation) has reduced the maximum fare for the Belapur-Pendhar Metro corridor to Rs 30. This decision comes after consultations with the government and feedback from commuters. The Belapur-Pendhar line, part of the Navi Mumbai Metro, is a crucial transit route connecting key nodes in Navi Mumbai, providing a significant alternative to road-based transport in the area.

The revised fare structure reduces the maximum fare from Rs 40 to Rs 30, with a minimum fare of Rs 10 for shorter distances. The fare revision is expected to encourage more commuters to switch to the metro, which offers a faster and more efficient mode of transportation compared to the heavily congested roads. This corridor, which stretches for 11.1 kilometers and consists of 11 stations, is seen as a lifeline for those traveling between residential and commercial areas in Navi Mumbai.

CIDCO, the authority overseeing the development of Navi Mumbai, has been working to increase metro ridership since the Belapur-Pendhar corridor became operational. The reduction in fare is part of a broader effort to boost public transport usage and reduce dependency on personal vehicles, which in turn can help decrease traffic congestion and pollution in the city.

The Belapur-Pendhar Metro line has been designed to integrate with other metro lines and public transportation systems, such as buses and local trains. With affordable pricing, the metro is expected to cater to a larger section of the population, including daily commuters, office workers, and students.

As the metro continues to expand across Navi Mumbai, CIDCO is also focusing on the timely completion of other metro lines under its jurisdiction to provide enhanced connectivity across the region. The fare reduction is a positive step towards achieving that goal, providing both immediate relief to commuters and long-term benefits to the city’s transportation landscape.
