The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has achieved a significant milestone in its Phase II expansion, completing the grade separator work along Corridor 4 between Mullaithottam and Poonamallee Depot. This corridor, spanning 26.1 km from Light House Station to Poonamallee Depot, is a crucial component of the city's evolving metro network, aimed at enhancing connectivity and easing traffic congestion.

Major Progress in Corridor 4 Construction As of March 1, 2025, substantial progress has been made in traffic decongestion efforts, particularly with the completion of the grade separator work between Mullaithottam and Karayanchavadi stations. In a further step towards operational readiness, a motor trolley was successfully transported from Poonamallee Depot to Mullaithottam Station, reaching Pier No. 424, the designated initiation point for the Grade Separator construction.

Strategic Relocation of RRV for Overhead Equipment Operations An essential component of the project’s advancement is the relocation of the Road cum Rail Vehicle (RRV), a key asset for Overhead Equipment (OHE) operations. The RRV was successfully moved from Poonamallee Depot to Mullaithottam Station, ensuring the seamless execution of critical electrical and operational works.

Project Leadership and Inspection During an official inspection, senior officials, including Thiru. T. Archunan, Director (Projects), CMRL, Thiru. S. Ashok Kumar, CGM (Track & Elevated), Thiru. A. R. Rajendran, CGM (Rolling Stock), and Latief Khan Mohammad, Chief Project Manager-GC (Track), along with CMRL staff and contractors, reviewed the project’s progress. Their visit underscores CMRL’s commitment to timely execution and quality infrastructure development.

Chennai Metro’s Vision for Corridor 4 CMRL is accelerating civil construction between Porur and Poonamallee Depot, targeting the launch of passenger services by late 2025.
