Bengaluru Metro to Expand to 175 km by 2026, Boosting Urban Mobility
The expansion involves constructing new metro corridors, such as the Purple Line and the Outer Ring Road-Airport Line, which will link major city hubs, commercial centres, and residential areas. This development is expected to enhance accessibility for commuters throughout Bengaluru.
A key highlight of the project is the establishment of modern metro stations and integration with existing bus services, facilitating seamless transfers between different transport modes. Furthermore, provisions for last-mile connectivity are being incorporated to ensure commuters can easily reach their final destinations, improving the overall travel experience.
The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL), responsible for overseeing the project, is prioritizing advanced technologies and sustainable practices. The expansion focuses on energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions, aligning with the city’s vision for an eco-friendly public transportation system.
With the extended Namma Metro network, travel times across the city are expected to decrease significantly. This will improve access to employment hubs, educational institutions, and key destinations, enabling residents to navigate Bengaluru more efficiently.
