Bengaluru Metro Eyes Cargo Transport for Revenue Boost
A senior BMRCL official mentioned that discussions would soon be held to draft a comprehensive plan, with Baiyappanahalli station serving as a key hub. The initiative aims to address road congestion and pollution while improving supply chain efficiency.
In addition to cargo transport, BMRCL is working on station naming rights, advertising, and train-wrapping ads to diversify revenue. However, transport expert Prof. M.N. Srihari has criticized the timing, suggesting these measures should have been considered before the fare hike.
He pointed out successful global models, like Madrid Metro’s collaboration with logistics partners, urging BMRCL to learn from such examples.
