Admin Committee to check metro’s viability in Chandigarh, Panchkula and Mohali

The Chandigarh Administration has formed an eight-member committee to assess the feasibility of implementing a Metro system across the Tricity area, including Chandigarh, Panchkula, and Mohali. This follows a directive from the Chandigarh Administrator issued in September.

The committee will evaluate the economic and financial viability of the Metro project, with a focus on cities of similar size and population that have successfully implemented metro systems. The committee will collaborate with Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES) to examine the technical and operational feasibility, including the use of radar technology for shifting underground services.

The committee’s report, expected within two months, will also explore alternatives to the Metro system, especially in light of the region's traffic congestion.
