Railways flags off 88 projects across the country

Minister of Railways Piyush Goyal recently inaugurated 88 railway projects worth over Rs 1,000 crore via video conferencing. The projects include a host of infrastructure projects, projects related to passenger amenities and facilities at various railway stations in West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh.

Foot over bridges have been provided at three locations in Kerala at a total cost of Rs 9.56 crore at Kochuveli, Kollam and Kundara. Service lifts have been provided at Aluva and Kanhangad at a total cost of Rs 1.60 crore to facilitate ease of access to platforms and concourse areas, especially for senior citizens, sick and divyang passengers.

Video surveillance systems have been installed at 15 locations to reinforce passenger safety at railway stations, at a total cost of Rs 9.45 crore.

Central monitoring systems have been installed at railway stations in Chennai.

Stations in Kerala such as Ernakulam Town, Alleppey, Kayamkulam, Aluva, Chengannur, Kottayam, Tiruvalla, Badagara, Kasaragod, Kannur, Palakkad Junction, Tirur, Thalassery, Kanhangad, and Payyanur will be equipped with video surveillance systems.

At two stations in Kerala, Thrissur and Thiruvananthapuram Central, airport type illumination of covered platforms has been built at a total cost of Rs 42 lakh.

According to the Ministry of Railways (MoR), platform raising works have been completed at Tanur at a cost of Rs 1.39 crore for ease of boarding and deboarding of passengers, especially the elderly and divyang passengers.

As a part of energy efficient and power saving measures, 100 kWp solar plants have been commissioned in Thrissur and Thiruvananthapuram at a cost of Rs 42 lakh.
