YEIDA Explores Road Link for Noida International Airport Connectivity

The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) is exploring options to connect Noida International Airport in Jewar with NH-34, which passes through Sikandrabad in Bulandshahr. Discussions with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) have already begun to examine potential route alignments, with work underway on a detailed proposal. Before the land acquisition for the airport, Jewar was connected to Sikandrabad via a road. However, as the government acquired 1,334 hectares across six villages for the airport’s first phase, a 3 km stretch of the Jewar-Sikandrabad road was included in the project, cutting off direct access to Sikandrabad. As a result, YEIDA notified areas along the internal road. In the years following, an alternative route to Sikandrabad was established via Jahangirpur and Jhajhar, but this detour involves passing through multiple villages and adds several kilometers to the journey. Though no official route map has been released, there is a possibility of building a link road between the airport and Khurja, which connects to NH-34. The final route, however, will depend on a feasibility study and the detailed project report (DPR). This new road link is crucial to improving accessibility to the airport from neighboring districts. NH-34, which runs from Gangotri Dham in Uttarakhand to Lakhnadon in Madhya Pradesh, is a major route connecting cities like Haridwar, Meerut, and Bulandshahr. Shailendra Bhatia, Officer on Special Duty at YEIDA, stated, “While our initial discussions have been positive, the DPR will define key details such as route alignment, budget, and the length of the link road.” Currently, the government's connectivity plan includes a nearly completed 31 km stretch linking the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway to the airport from Ballabhgarh near Faridabad. Additionally, the UP Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEDA) has proposed a new speedway connecting the Ganga Expressway with the airport, which will interface with the Yamuna Expressway via NH-34, passing through several notified villages in the YEIDA region and New Noida before connecting with the Yamuna Expressway near the proposed Film City.
