YEIDA Explores New Link to NH-34 for Airport

The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) is actively exploring options to connect the Noida International Airport in Jewar with NH-34, which runs through Sikandrabad in Bulandshahr. This initiative aims to improve accessibility to the airport from nearby districts, ensuring smoother transportation for travelers and goods alike.

YEIDA officials have confirmed that discussions have been initiated with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) regarding potential route alignments. Work on preparing a detailed project proposal is already underway. The final route will be determined based on a feasibility study and the detailed project report (DPR), which will also define crucial aspects such as budget, alignment, and the length of the proposed link road.

Previously, the Jewar-Sikandrabad road connected Jewar to Sikandrabad. However, with the government’s acquisition of 1,334 hectares across six villages for the airport’s first phase, a 3km stretch of the Jewar-Sikandrabad road was included in the acquired land, cutting off access to Sikandrabad.

In response, an alternative route was established via Jahangirpur and Jhajhar, though it passes through several villages and adds a significant detour. YEIDA is now exploring a more direct route that may link the airport to Khurja, where NH-34 passes, potentially improving access to the airport.

NH-34, an essential highway stretching from Gangotri Dham in Uttarakhand to Lakhnadon in Madhya Pradesh, connects several key cities, including Haridwar, Meerut, and Bulandshahr, making it a critical part of the region's infrastructure.

“We are optimistic about the initial discussions, but the DPR will finalize the route details and other important aspects of the project,” said Shailendra Bhatia, Officer on Special Duty at YEIDA.

The proposed connectivity is also complemented by other ongoing projects. A nearly complete 31km stretch is already being developed to connect the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway with the airport, starting from Ballabhgarh near Faridabad. Additionally, the UP Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEDA) has proposed a new speedway linking the Ganga Expressway to the airport, which will interface with the Yamuna Expressway via NH-34. This new expressway will pass through several villages in the YEIDA region and New Noida before merging with the Yamuna Expressway near the proposed Film City.
