Thane Reviews Road Projects Amid Key Challenges
Among the most pressing concerns raised during the review were the frequent disruptions caused by local traffic, difficulties in obtaining necessary permissions for construction, and the slow pace of progress on projects like flyovers, bridges, and key arterial roads.
Key projects discussed included the Ghodbunder service road integration, Anand Nagar-Saket elevated road, Balkum-Gaimukh coastal road, multiple creek bridges, and the Thane-Borivali underpass/tunnel.
The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) is acquiring 12.59 hectares for the Airoli-Katai Naka elevated road, with revised proposals for additional land and funds underway. For the Thane-Borivali tunnel, TMC plans to supply 8 lakh liters of processed water daily from its sewage treatment plant.
The review highlighted the significant role these infrastructure projects play in easing the growing traffic congestion in Thane, improving connectivity with Mumbai and other neighboring cities, and contributing to the overall economic growth of the region. Municipal authorities are actively working on accelerating the completion of these projects and have emphasized the need for more collaborative efforts between the various civic agencies involved.
Thane’s road development plans are crucial for its vision of becoming a more accessible, modern, and well-connected city. With the new initiatives, the authorities aim to meet the demands of the city’s rapidly growing population while reducing the strain on its existing road network.
