State to Push Cable Car Projects in MMR Region

State's transport minister Pratap Sarnaik on Monday announced that cable car projects will be launched in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), wherever feasible, to ease transportation for citizens and tourists. Sarnaik said he will be meeting Union minister Nitin Gadkari in Delhi regarding this matter shortly.
Due to escalating urbanisation, the burgeoning number of vehicles, inadequate road and railway services, and mounting pollution in the MMR, the minister emphasised the necessity to make strategic decisions and examine successful innovative projects from developed nations to address transportation challenges. "Considering Mumbai's strategic geographical position, coastal region, ancient caves like Elephanta, hill stations like Matheran, Sanjay Gandhi National Park, and Tungareshwar Wildlife Sanctuary, implementing the cable car project through ropeways to enhance the transport system is crucial," he said.
During the meeting, consultations with Gadkari will be conducted to discuss implementing the proposed projects through the central govt' Parvatmala scheme, he said.
