To enhance connectivity between Maharashtra and Karnataka, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) announced that a new expressway will be built soon between Pune and Bengaluru. Construction on the ambitious Pune-Bengaluru Expressway project is expected to begin soon. Apart from providing convenience, the expressway is also likely to give a boost to export exchange between two economically driven states.
The NHAI informed that the total length of the expressway will be 700 Km, and it will connect nine districts of Karnataka to three districts of Maharashtra. While providing details, it stated that several districts of Karnataka, including Bengaluru Rural, Tumkur, Chitradurga, Davangere, Vijayanagar, Koppal, Gadag, Bagalkot, and Belgaum, will be connected to Sangli, Satara, and Pune of Maharashtra.
The 8-lane highway expressway between Pune and Bengaluru will be constructed with a total budget exceeding Rs 500 billion. Providing convenience to the residents of these areas, the expressway is expected to cut the current travel time between the two cities from 15 hours to just 7 hours. The NHAI stated that vehicles will be allowed to travel with a maximum speed of 120 kilometers per hour, enhancing travel efficiency.
The department stated that the officials are currently preparing a detailed project report (DPR) related to the ambitious project. It further stated that the process of land acquisition will begin once the officials are done with the DPR. The expressway between Pune and Bengaluru will feature several flyovers, overbridges, and interchanges.
The NHAI stated that the construction of the Pune-Bengaluru Expressway is likely to begin shortly and is expected to be completed by 2028. The project is expected to boost economic growth in these regions. It further stated that due to improved connectivity and infrastructure, the real estate sector will get a major boost. Though NHAI has not disclosed the full plan yet, the expressway is likely to be constructed along the second airport of Bengaluru.
