One end of 1.6 km Kuthiran Tunnel opens in Kerala

Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari directed to open one end of the 1.6-km-long Kuthiran Tunnel in Kerala.

The first road tunnel in Kerala, Kuthiran Tunnel, is a twin-tube tunnel, with three lanes per tube, placed at Kuthiran in the Thrissur district of Kerala.

On Sunday, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways told the media that the move would assist in improving connectivity between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

The Kuthiran Tunnel will majorly enhance connectivity to Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. It would also lessen travel time between Coimbatore and Kochi.

The Kuthiran tunnel is planned to run through Peechi- Vazhani wildlife sanctuary.

The road will enhance connectivity to major ports and towns in the North-South Corridor without risking wildlife.

Nitin Gadkari told the media that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, development in the infrastructure of the nation is assuring better economic opportunities for every citizen.
