The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has approved the purchase of two advanced drones equipped with night vision cameras to enhance security on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in Ratlam district. These drones, costing approximately Rs 7 lakh, will be deployed to monitor and prevent incidents of stone pelting and robberies, particularly along a 15-kilometre stretch near the Raoti and Shivgarh police station areas.

Designed for night time surveillance, the drones are equipped with thermal imaging capabilities, allowing them to detect and capture images of individuals even in low-light conditions. They will be connected to the police control room, providing real-time monitoring within a 2-kilometer range. This will enable law enforcement officers to track suspicious activities, identify perpetrators, and respond swiftly to potential threats.

The decision to deploy these drones stems from increasing concerns over criminal activities on the expressway. With most incidents occurring during night time, the use of aerial surveillance aims to strengthen security measures and enhance the efficiency of crime prevention efforts. By offering continuous monitoring and high-resolution imaging, the drones will support authorities in identifying and apprehending those involved in illegal activities.
