NHAI to build flyover and underpass on Jaipur's 200-Feet bypass

Following a recent survey, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) decided to construct a flyover and an underpass at the 200-Feet Bypass crossing, known to be one of the city's most congested areas.

The Union Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways (MoRTH) is expected to float tenders for the project in January of the following year. Once construction begins, it is projected to take approximately one and a half years to complete. NHAI plans to submit a detailed project report (DPR) within the next two months.

Ajay Arya from NHAI explained that the initiative aims to alleviate traffic congestion for around 125,000 daily commuters who pass through the area. He noted that the growing number of vehicles at this crossing has significantly increased the time needed to pass through the signals, and these new projects could greatly reduce travel time.

Officials further mentioned that the flyover and underpass would positively impact city traffic and streamline the flow of vehicles between Delhi and Ajmer. The proposed flyover would primarily serve traffic from the Ajmer side, turning left at this crossing toward Delhi. Currently, a flyover exists for traffic in the opposite direction—from Delhi, taking a right towards Ajmer. The new 1.6-km flyover is planned to run parallel to the existing structure.

Additionally, the underpass will facilitate movement between Vaishali Nagar and Mansarovar in both directions.

An NHAI official remarked that traffic between the Sodala and Ajmer sides, moving in both directions, would still pass through this crossing. However, the signal could temporarily stop if police permit vehicles from Vaishali Nagar to take a right towards Ajmer via the service road.
