MMRDA Begins Rs 26.82 Bn Ghatkopar-Thane Elevated Road Project
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has commenced construction on a Rs 26.82 billion elevated corridor between Ghatkopar and Thane, aimed at easing congestion along one of the busiest urban stretches.

The project, which involves an elevated road above the Eastern Freeway, will connect Chheda Nagar in Ghatkopar to Anand Nagar in Thane over a span of 12.955 km. Initial works such as pillar excavation have already begun, and roadblocks are in place to facilitate smooth and secure construction.

Designed with three lanes on each side, the corridor will provide a seamless, signal-free route, significantly reducing travel time between Mumbai and Thane to around 30–35 minutes. Authorities say the elevated road will bring immense relief to daily commuters navigating the city's increasingly congested roadways.
