Lucknow Civic Body Proposes Rs 8 Bn Infrastructure Upgrade

The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) is planning a substantial budget allocation of Rs 8 billion for the upcoming financial year to strengthen urban sustainability efforts, particularly in sanitation and road infrastructure. This increase will expand the city’s total budget to Rs 48 billion for the financial year 2025-26, reflecting a notable rise from the previous year’s Rs 40 billion. The budget proposal is set to be presented at the LMC’s executive meeting for approval, focusing on upgrading civic amenities to meet the evolving urban challenges.

A major portion of the additional funds, around Rs 6 billion, is designated for improving the city’s sanitation system. Rising costs associated with outsourcing waste management services have necessitated this increased allocation. In previous years, the municipal body allocated Rs 3 billion annually for cleanliness initiatives. The enhanced funding will enable the purchase of modern sanitation vehicles, installation of waste compactors to prevent spillage, and a transition from open garbage transportation to enclosed systems. Additionally, door-to-door waste collection services will be expanded to improve overall waste disposal efficiency, contributing to a cleaner and healthier urban environment.

Simultaneously, Rs 2 billion has been allocated under the Chief Minister Grid Road Yojana (CM Grid Road Scheme) to accelerate road development projects. The scheme has already facilitated the construction of seven roads with an investment of Rs 1.86 billion, and an additional Rs 1.25 billion was sanctioned in the second phase for four more roads. The new budget will further support these infrastructure initiatives, aiming to enhance connectivity, reduce congestion, and improve transportation efficiency. Better road infrastructure is expected to shorten travel time and boost economic activity within the city.

The proposed budget highlights LMC’s commitment to upgrading civic infrastructure while aligning with sustainable urban development goals. By prioritizing sanitation and road enhancement, the municipal corporation is addressing essential aspects of public well-being and urban mobility. The finalization of these allocations will depend on the upcoming executive meeting, where the proposals will be reviewed and approved before implementation in the next fiscal year. The effectiveness of these initiatives will rely on efficient execution and transparent governance, ensuring meaningful improvements in Lucknow’s urban landscape.
