L&T & SP Singla Bid for 12 km Palasbari – Sualkuchi Bridge in Assam

Larsen & Toubro and SP Singla Constructions Pvt. Ltd. are the two firms that submitted pre-qualification applications for the construction of a new 12.2 km bridge connecting Palashbari – Sualkuchi in Assam.

Brief information about the project:
The proposed four-lane extra-dosed PSC bridge over the River Brahmaputra for a length of 3600 metres has multi-span extra-dosed units of PSC superstructure, a 216-metre viaduct, a 5387-metre approach road with one traffic junction at National Highway-17 with a service road on the Palashbari side, an 864-metre elevated road, and a 1927-metre approach road with a service road and a rotary at the end that meets at Bongsor Sualkuchi Road on the North Bank.

The total project length is 12.21 km. The main bridge is a four-lane carriage-way with an overall width of 28 metres. The project starts at Kaita Sidhi on NH-17 (near Mirza) on the South Bank, crosses the River Brahmaputra, and terminates at Bongsor Sualkuchi Road on the North Bank. The river training and protection works are one of the main scopes of work under the project.

This 4 lane extradosed PSC bridge over the Brahmaputra river, just west of Guwahati, will be executed by Assam’s Public Works Road Department (PWRD).

The project’s foundation stone was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 14, 2023 with a total estimated cost of Rs. 3197.20 crores. 80% of its cost will be financed by the New Development Bank (NDB) which approved a USD 300 million loan in July 2019.

PWRD invited pre-qualification applications in March 2023 with a Rs. 2600 crore estimate for the bridge, approach roads and other miscellaneous civil construction work.

Both applications will now be evaluated. Firms that qualify will in the coming months be issued Request for Proposal (RfP) documents to participate in the next round of the bidding process.
