The construction of the Indore-Ujjain six-lane road is progressing rapidly, with significant portions of the road base completed between Ujjain and Indore. The Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation (MPRDC) is undertaking this ambitious 44.6 km highway project at a cost of Rs 623.95 crore ($75 million) to cater to the increasing traffic driven by religious, commercial, and tourism activities.

The project aims to complete the road before the Kumbh Mela 2027, ensuring smoother traffic management during the massive pilgrimage. The road construction work commenced on January 15th, and the contract was awarded to a company from Udaipur.

Recently, Minister of Public Works, Rakesh Singh, reviewed the project’s progress at the Residency. According to officials, approval has been granted by the district administration to cut or transplant approximately 3,000 trees obstructing construction across the Indore and Ujjain districts. To minimize environmental impact, the contractor will transplant trees wherever possible, and for every tree felled, 10 new trees will be planted.

Sanwer SDM Ghanshyam Dhanagar confirmed that permission to remove trees in the Indore district portion was recently granted, and the land acquisition process is now complete. Construction work is making swift progress around Sanwer and Ninora, with sections of the bridge on the Indore-Ujjain road in Sanwer already demolished and traffic being diverted to another lane.

Once completed, the six-lane highway will significantly enhance connectivity between Indore and Ujjain, providing a smoother travel experience for devotees, tourists, and local commuters alike.
