Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, who oversees the PWD (Roads), conducted a review of road projects undertaken by the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL) in the Khasi-Jaintia Hills and Garo Hills region.

In the Khasi and Jaintia Hills region, the road projects include a four-lane road connecting Panchgram, Assam, and the Shillong Western bypass. In the Garo Hills region, projects encompass the Dainadubi-Darogre-Williamnagar junction road and Tura-Dalu Road.

Following the meeting, Tynsong addressed the media and announced the commencement of a survey for the four-lane road from Mawlyngkhum, Umiam to Panchgram, Assam. He mentioned, "NHIDCL has informed us that the survey is underway. The district committee, chaired by the DC of East Khasi Hills, is actively monitoring and convening review meetings regularly to address any issues related to land ownership or disputes with raid or himas."

Highlighting the significance of the four-lane road project for Meghalaya, Tynsong emphasised, "This project is crucial and has been termed the NorthEast corridor project under Mission 2047 by the NDA government. The state government is committed to ensuring a smooth process until the land is handed over to NHIDCL for construction."

Regarding the Shillong Western Bypass, the deputy CM informed that compensation funds had already been disbursed to the affected landowners by the Ri Bhoi DC.
