Fadnavis Directs PMRDA to Prepare Underground Tunnel Plan
The proposed twin-tunnel project is expected to significantly improve travel between the northern and southern parts of the city. By addressing congestion along the 15-kilometer stretch, the tunnel is designed to reduce travel time and provide a more efficient commuting experience for residents. Utilizing advanced tunnel construction technology, the project is expected to enhance road infrastructure and streamline traffic flow.
PMRDA has received in-principle approval to proceed with a detailed project report (DPR) and feasibility study for the tunnel. The plan includes constructing three lanes in each direction, ensuring a seamless connection between major city roads.
In addition to the tunnel project, several key infrastructure initiatives have been approved. These include an allocation of Rs 6.36 billion for road networks connecting the upcoming Purandar airport, Rs 2.03 billion for cement roads in the Ranjangaon and Hinjewadi industrial zones, and Rs 15.26 billion for the development of urban growth center roads. These projects collectively aim to strengthen Pune’s transport network, support industrial zones, and accommodate future urban expansion.
By prioritizing infrastructure development, the government aims to improve mobility, reduce travel time, and enhance overall urban connectivity in the region.
