Ahmedabad-based Dineshchandra R Agrawal Infracon (DRA Infracon) has secured the 121 km Guwahati Ring Road project in Assam under the build, operate, and transfer (BOT) toll model. The company emerged as the lowest bidder for the Rs 49 billion project, committing to construct the highway without any grant from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
This marks NHAI’s first fully private-funded highway project in nearly three years. The Rs 52.79 billion Guwahati Ring Road project includes a three-km bridge on the Brahmaputra, with the company recovering its investment through toll collection. The Assam government will bear 50 per cent of the land cost and provide exemptions on aggregate royalties and the state portion of GST.
The project will be executed in three sections:
- 4-lane Access-Controlled Northern Guwahati Bypass (56 km)
- Widening of NH 27 bypass from 4 to 6 lanes (8 km)
- Improvement of NH 27 bypass (58 km)
- 3 km bridge over the Brahmaputra
Once completed, the Guwahati Ring Road will enhance connectivity for long-distance traffic along NH 27 (East-West Corridor), a crucial gateway to the North-East region.
