The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways announced the approval of 50 National Highway projects, which collectively span 1,026 kilometres in Manipur. Among these, 44 projects, covering 902 kilometres, are situated in the hilly regions of the state.

To date, eight projects, totalling 125 kilometres, have been successfully completed in these hilly areas. The remaining 36 projects, with an estimated cost of around Rs 120 billion, are currently under development, aiming to improve connectivity and infrastructure in these challenging terrains.

For the Annual Plan 2024-25, the Ministry has allocated funds for two additional National Highway projects, amounting to Rs 13.50 billion for a combined length of 90 kilometres, which are also located in the hilly regions.

Additionally, under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF), the Ministry approved a list of prioritized work on state roads as submitted by the Manipur State Government. Out of a total of 111 proposed works, the Ministry greenlit 57 projects based on their priority, achieving a Bank of Specifications (BoS) ratio of 9.81, which is significantly higher than the permissible ratio of 4 for hilly states.

This comprehensive investment in road infrastructure is expected to enhance transportation and connectivity across Manipur, particularly in its hill areas, thereby supporting economic growth and development in the region.
