Cabinet confirms Rs 45B JNPA-Chowk Highway

The Union Cabinet has approved the construction of a 6-lane access-controlled greenfield high-speed National Highway connecting JNPA Port (Pagote) to Chowk (29.219 km) in Maharashtra. The project, to be developed on a Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) model, will cost approximately Rs 45 billion ($541 million).

Key Features:

Improved connectivity between JNPA Port, Navi Mumbai Airport, Mumbai-Pune Expressway, and Mumbai-Goa National Highway (NH-66). Two tunnels through the Sahayadri range to ensure smooth commercial vehicle movement. Aims to reduce travel time from JNPA Port to NH-48 and Mumbai–Pune Expressway by eliminating heavy congestion points like Palaspe Phata, Kalamboli junction, and Panvel. Enhanced logistic efficiency to support regional growth and economic prosperity.

The project aligns with the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan principles, aiming for better port connectivity and efficient freight movement.
